Beginning Weaving 2 — Make a Shoulder Bag
This class is for those who have a rigid heddle loom and are ready for a slightly more advanced project. You’ll get to weave a cell-phone shoulder bag. The pattern we’ll be using is Log Cabin. Choose your yarn color when you sign up — pick one light color and one dark color. Contrast is important.
What you’ll learn:
Reading a basic weaving draft
Using the warping board
Indirect warping method
Weaving with 2 shuttles
Preventing draw-in
Review of other foundation techniques
Finishing techniques to complete at home – straight sewing, creating a strap, wet finishing
Materials you need to bring:
2 skeins worsted-weight cotton yarn for warp and weft. Choose high contrast colors!
You will need to purchase or borrow a warping board
Your rigid heddle loom with table clamps
Loom stand if you have one
A heddle reed of 7.5 or 8 dents per inch
Cardboard packing sticks or heavy brown paper (can be a full-sized grocery bag)
Threading hook
2 stick shuttles (available for purchase)
Scissors
A pencil
A measuring tape
Some worsted-weight waste yarn if you have it
