It has been a dream of mine to run a dyeing company solely with yarn that I have personally sourced and developed, from farm to yarn. In fact, before the yarn store opened and the dyeing came into full swing, I obsessed about opening my own mill, right here on the Palouse. I have come to realize, however, that I am not a particularly handy or mechanically inclined sort of person, but much better suited to playing with color. So, back to my current dream, sourcing fiber and matching it with a mill.
The local shearer stopped by last week, with a handful of greasy, crimpy, wonderful fleece. The best he has seen this season. Growing on sheep right here, less than a 30 minute drive away! Belonging to a wonderful lady named Bev! I was hooked. We made the drive. I bought all the fleece.
6 months to a year. That is my estimation of the time involved in this new project, to take it from start to finish. So, I thought I would share it with you, the wonderful knitters and appreciators of color that you are. And I hope to pique your interest in a wonderful breed of sheep, and share the wonderful local yarn that results.
